Destiny 2: Beyond Light Exotics revealed in new trailer, here’s the full list - Polygon Posted: 07 Oct 2020 12:00 AM PDT On Wednesday, Bungie launched a new trailer for Destiny 2: Beyond Light. It shows off some gameplay from the upcoming expansion, mostly focused on a whole host of new Exotic weapons and armor coming Nov. 10. The studio also updated its Beyond Light website with new details on gear. This trailer comes after a brief tease from Tuesday and is reminiscent of the Exotic trailer from Destiny 2: Forsaken two years ago. But this time there are a few ice-themed weapons to match the new Stasis element. And unlike last year's Shadowkeep expansion, each class will get more than just a single new Exotic armor piece. Here's a look at all the Exotics we currently know about in Destiny 2: Beyond Light. It's likely there are several more Exotics hidden inside Beyond Light — such as Hawkmoon, a returning hand cannon we already know will appear in the new expansion. No Time To Explain - pulse rifleA returning Exotic from the original Destiny — the rifle belonging to the Exo Stranger — No Time To Explain offers a "personal protection portal." We also got a complete description on Bungie's website: "Precision hits and hits against enemies affected by Stasis will return to the magazine. Stack this effect to summon a portal which will fire bullets from an alternate timeline of the weapon." The Personal Protection Portal (generated by rapid precision hits or attacks on Stasis enemies) looks similar to the Arc Buddy turret that Warlocks can give to allies. Players can pick up No Time To Explain by pre-ordering the deluxe version of Beyond Light or the standard edition and season bundle. It also comes with the No Time To Explain Catalyst, which causes the portal to fire faster. Cloudstrike - sniper rifleCloudstrike looks to be an Arc sniper rifle that chains lightning between enemies on precision kills. Here's the official description for it: "Precision final blows will generate lightning bolts at the target location. Rapid precision shots will summon an entire storm at the point of impact." In the trailer, we see a Guardian get a headshot in the Crucible, which then chains to nearby enemies, killing them as well. Usually for trailers like this, the effect is a little exaggerated. It seems unlikely this sniper could kill three full-health Guardians with a single headshot. But it seems like it can deal some major collateral damage to nearby targets. The Lament - swordThe Lament looks like a giant chainsaw mixed with a fantasy sword, and decorated to look like the RAM sitting in your motherboard right now. It has multiple effects, which we learn from the full description on Bungie's website: "A mortal blade, a stalwart shield. Block with The Lament to rev the blade, then shred through shielded enemies. At its peak, damaging an enemy will heal the wielder." The Lament's video description is that it simply can "shred Barrier shields," but it sounds like it can do much more. Swords are currently very powerful in Destiny 2, so this could end up being a potent weapon for endgame content — especially for Grandmaster Nightfalls, where Barrier Champions are plentiful. Salvation's Grip - grenade launcherThe Salvation's Grip is a grenade launcher, held using a side handle. It can create big pillars of ice, similar to the Stasis abilities. Here's the full description: "Redemption is within your grasp. Each fired projectile will create Stasis crystals that will freeze nearby targets. Charge to increase the amount of crystals created and the freeze radius." The Salvation's Grip seems all about freezing enemies and spreading ice crystals. This has some major potential when paired with some Stasis subclasses, which seem to offer bonuses for Shattering Stasis-effected enemies and Stasis crystals. Icefall Mantle - Titan gauntletsThe Icefall Mantle looks to be a Stasis-themed armor Exotic for Titans. Here's the official description: "Stand tall against the oncoming hordes with this reinforced armor that replaces the Titan's Barricade with Overshield, absorbing damage from incoming fire." This Exotic basically offers a tradeoff. Instead of putting up a barrier for you and your allies, you'll only protect yourself. But, being an overshield, it travels with you wherever you go. Precious Scars - Titan helmetPrecious Scars is the antithesis of the Icefall Mantle, instead focused on helping revived allies. Here's the official description: "Prove your strength, even when coming back from the brink. Upon revives, the Titan gains an Overshield aura that protects the wearer and nearby allies." This piece's description is a little confusing. It's currently unclear if the shielding effect only occurs when the wearer dies, or when the wearer revives allies, or both. Players also already get an overshield when they revive an ally or an ally revives them. We're not sure how this one works yet. Mask of Bakris - Hunter helmetIt wouldn't be a Destiny expansion without a new, weird Hunter Exotic specifically for PvP. And this one reimagines a Hunter ability from the original Destiny. Here's the official description: "Don the Mask to replace the Hunter's Dodge ability with a longer range Shift ability that also temporarily cloaks the wearer during use." This is effectively the Hunter Blink from the original Destiny. But instead of being a jump override like it is for the Warlock, it's a dodge override. While there could be some PvE uses, this seems like a mostly PvP Exotic. Arthrys's Embrace - Hunter gauntletsThe Arthrys's Embrace gauntlets focus on the Weighted Knife ability from the Way of the Sharpshooter Hunter subclass tree. Here's how it works: "The Hunter's weighted knife gains a second ricochet; rapid precision hits gain a damage bonus and can temporarily stagger enemies." This Exotic seems pretty situational, but potentially good for players who want to show off their ricochet skills in PvP. Although the trailer does make it look like the knife homes in on the target's head after the second bounce. But that could just be movie magic. Dawn of Chorus - Warlock helmetThe Dawn of Chorus helmet further improves Warlock's already very powerful Daybreak super. Here's the full description: "Feel that sweet burn. The Warlock's Daybreak projectiles deal extra damage and cause enemies to burn on contact. Gain melee energy each time a burn damages a target." While Daybreak is a mostly PvP Super, the Dawn of Chorus seems to improve its PvE capabilities, with a higher damage DoT and a bonus to melee energy. Necrotic Grip - Warlock gauntletsThe Necrotic Grip gauntlets continue the Warlock's damage-over-time theme with an interesting effect. Here's what it does: "A deadly caress, compounded. Melee attacks corrupt enemies with increasing damage over time. Defeating a corrupted combatant spreads the corruption to nearby targets and restores melee energy." This Exotic also refunds melee energy, but spreads a poison between enemies when you melee and kill them. Depending on how powerful the effect is, this could be a really potent Exotic. Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light on Nov. 10 for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. The game's next-gen versions will launch later this year. |
