The parade was not held in 2022 due to funding difficulties suffered by the event organisers, after being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. The "river of fire" will make its way from the Meadows park throughout the Old Town to beneath Edinburgh Castle. About 20,000 people are expected to attend the event. Celebrations will continue throughout the weekend, with legendary indie band Pulp headlining a concert in Princes Street Gardens on Hogmanay.
