Glastonbury 2024: From Cher To Bruce Springsteen, Who's Rumoured To Headline Festival?

With Glastonbury 2024 tickets selling out in November, the rumour mill around who will headline the festival next year is starting to whir.

The full festival lineup typically isn't unveiled until May – just one month before it takes place at Worthy Farm, Somerset – but that won't stop music fans from speculating over who could top the Pyramid Stage.

In a recent episode of Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw's podcast Sidetracked, Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis revealed she was recently offered a "really big American artist" she hopes will headline next year.

"I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we'll be booked up from July. But this year we're holding out for a little bit longer," she told the hosts.

"And then last week I got a call from [a representative of] a really big American artist saying, 'This person's around next year', and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is incredible. Thank God we held the slot.'"

Fans began speculating that Madonna could be one of Glastonbury's headliners in October, after Eavis praised the pop icon on Instagram for her "incredible" performance at the O2 Arena in London.

"I walked away and I was like, 'I've got a post about this'. I've posted about going to lots of gigs before, but I didn't expect it to be quite such big news," Eavis later explained. "Everybody knows that I've always wanted Madonna to play Glastonbury. It's not a big news story."

But according to reports, 2024 may not be Madonna's year at Glastonbury after all. The Daily Mail reports that the 65-year-old – who has never performed at Worthy Farm – was lined up for the Sunday "legends" slot. However, talks are said to have broken down due to the cost required to bring the set-up from Madonna's Celebration world tour to the festival.

The Sun has now reported that former headliner Bruce Springsteen, 74, is in talks to replace her. However, Eavis had previously hinted that next year's festival could be headlined by two women following fierce criticism at 2023's all-male headliners.

However, recent comments by pop legend Cher have also bolstered rumours that she could be joining the lineup.

Let's take a look at some of the rumours doing the rounds:

Cher

It's hard to believe that Cher hasn't performed at Glastonbury before, but the "Believe" singer has been dropping hints that she'd love to perform at Worthy Farm. Appearing on BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday (20 December), the 77-year-old told host Rylan Clark that she'd "like to" take on the Sunday afternoon Legends slot. When the shocked Clark told her: "So hang on; you're saying if I manage to make this happen, you'll be on that stage?", she reiterated "yes". The pair then shook hands as Clark promised to "get you that Legends slot".

Bruce Springsteen

"Born to Run" singer Springsteen's name often is mentioned amid Glastonbury rumours. The musician, who last appeared on the Pyramid Stage with Paul McCartney as part of the Beatles star's headline set in 2022, headlined the festival with his E Street Band in 2009. In September, Springsteen cancelled and postponed all of his remaining 2023 shows as he recovered from peptic ulcer disease. However, new shows were added in Europe for 2024, with no performances currently taking place on the Friday (28 June) and Sunday (30 June) of Glastonbury.

It was widely reported that Swift was the unnamed pop star who had to pull out of headlining in 2023, due to touring commitments. Unfortunately, she ruled herself out earlier this year after booking one final Dublin show on 28 June, which is the Friday night at Glastonbury. Sorry, Swifties!

The British pop-rock band have headlined Glastonbury five times already, but that doesn't mean organisers would be put off booking them again. They're booked to tour Europe through summer, but also happen to have a gap in their dates around the time the festival will take place.

The Lemonade artist enjoyed one of the most successful tours in music history with Rennaissance, the live show in support of her album of the same name. The reviews were ecstatic, as was the feedback from fans. She hasn't headlined since 2011, so it seems about time she made a return to Worthy Farm.

Rihanna

Despite there being virtually zero chance of this happening, fans can't help but dream of a Rihanna headline set at Glastonbury 2024. While her Super Bowl Halftime Show performance provided a glimmer of hope, Rihanna hasn't released a new album since 2016's Anti, and any work on a new record seems to have been sidelined by her Fenty empire and a growing family with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. So don't hold your breath.

Foo Fighters

After their "surprise" set in 2023 as mysterious band The ChurnUps, the Foo Fighters could be back at Worthy Farm next year, following the release of their latest album, But Here We Are. Frontman Dave Grohl is a huge Glasto fan, performing with the band in 1998 and 2017, and also joining Springsteen as a guest for McCartney's 2022 Pyramid Stage performance.

The British-Albanian pop star recently entered a new era of her music with single, "Houdini", following the release of her second album, Future Nostalgia, in 2020, and a spot on the hit soundtrack to the Barbie movie. Fans were gutted when she didn't make a surprise appearance during Elton John's headline set this year – maybe her own headline set would make up for it?

Liam Gallagher

The Oasis star is heading out on tour next year to celebrate 30 years of the rock band's classic album, Definitely Maybe. It seems like the perfect time for a Glastonbury singalong or, dare we say it, a reunion?

Glastonbury 2024: How To Buy Tickets And When Is The Re-sale?

Here we go: the road to Glastonbury 2024 begins! Glasto 2023 saw 200,000 people head down to Worthy Farm for the UK's biggest festival. Now, you're all eager to find out how to get into next year's event.

The Somerset-based festival is renowned not just for being one of the biggest festivals in the world but also one of the hardest to get tickets for. It started when coach and ticket packages sold out in 25 minutes, and then the general ticket sale sold out in just under an hour. But don't worry – all hope is not lost and a re-sale is coming soon.

The Glastonbury line-up typically won't be announced before tickets go on sale, but expect a bill fitting for a musical extravaganza. The 2023 line-up was packed with performances from the likes of Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses, Lana Del Rey, Phoenix, Queens Of The Stone Age, Kelis, Warpaint, Fatboy Slim, Fred Again.., Lil Nas X, Lizzo, and many more. However, there are already some pretty huge rumours for who'll be headlining in 2024.

Tickets for Glastonbury 2024 will go on sale in November – here's all the information you need to help you secure passes for next year's festival.

When will Glastonbury 2024 take place?

It has now been announced that, keeping with tradition, next year's festival will be taking place on the final weekend of June from Wednesday June 26 through to Sunday June 30, 2024 at Worthy Farm in Pilton,

How much will tickets for Glastonbury 2024 be?

Standard tickets for Glastonbury 2024 will cost £355 plus a £5 booking fee. As is now tradition, you can pay a £75 deposit per attendee before paying the full balance in the first week of April.

If you're buying coach tickets with your festival ticket, you must pay for the coach ticket in full at the time of purchase. Coach ticket prices vary depending on departure point, but typically sit between £40 and £150.

How and when do I to register for tickets to Glastonbury 2024?

Before you can even think about getting in the dreaded online queue for tickets when the on-sale day arrives, you need to register to be able to access tickets. This is a move adopted by Glastonbury to help cut down on touts and means each general admission ticket will come with a photo of the ticket holder printed on it.

You can register on the Glastonbury website here between 12pm GMT on Monday, November 6, and 5pm GMT on Monday, November 13.

Back in August, the festival gave advice for those wishing to get tickets and told fans that any Glastonbury ticket registrations submitted prior to 2020 need to be reviewed and confirmed before the next ticket sale. You can do that here.

When will tickets for Glastonbury 2024 go on sale?

The ticket sales for the 2024 festival were delayed by two weeks on November 2. Coach and ticket packages then went on sale at 6pm GMT on Thursday November 16 (and sold out in just 25 minutes) with the general sale following at 9am GMT on Sunday November 19 when they sold out in just under an hour. See below for details on the re-sale.

When will the ticket re-sale for Glastonbury 2024 be?

If you miss out on tickets in the first two sales, there's still a chance to grab tickets in the re-sale. These are tickets where the original purchasers haven't paid their balance in full by the cut-off date in early April and will be put back up for sale. Typically, the re-sale will take place a few weeks after the deadline for paying off the ticket balance, so expect it to take place towards the end of April 2024.

Expect there to another hectic rush after re-sale tickets for Glasto 2023 sold out in just six minutes back in April.

When will the line-up for Glastonbury 2024 be announced?

Don't expect to know the line-up for Glastonbury before you buy your tickets – the full bill isn't usually revealed until much closer to the event. Typically, festival organisers will reveal one or two big names towards the end of the year, with headliners and the first big line-up announcement taking place in the early spring. The full line-up will then be unveiled around a month before the festival is set to take place. These dates are not set in stone, however, and are liable to change.

How can I get into Glastonbury 2024 for free?

Didn't manage to get a ticket or simply can't afford one? There are alternative ways to get into the festival – as long as you're prepared to put in a bit of work. Numerous charities have a presence at the festival and require volunteers to help out across the weekend. In return for your ticket, you'll be asked to complete shifts across the festival – the length and number of these vary, depending on which charity you attend with. Be warned: you may have to pay a deposit for your ticket, which can be the same price as the entry to the festival. For more information, visit Glastonbury's jobs page.
