Set against the backdrop of Nazi Germany, the musical follows Sophie and Hans Scholl and a group of young activists as they create and distribute leaflets challenging Hitler's propaganda. Through its dynamic and hopeful portrayal, the musical vividly captures the unwavering spirit of youthful resistance against oppression, making for a compelling and heartwarming theatrical experience. Off-Broadway News Off-Broadway Premiere of White Rose: The Musical Begins Performances January 17Will Nunziata directs the new musical based on a true story of student activists in Nazi Germany.
The Off-Broadway premiere of White Rose: The Musical begins performances at Theatre Row January 17.
The musical, which will officially open January 25, stars Jo Ellen Pellman (Netflix's The Prom) as Sophie Scholl, Mike Cefalo (New York, New York) as Hans Scholl, Kennedy Kanagawa (Into the Woods) as Christoph Probst, Laura Sky Herman (Hello, Dolly!) as Lila Ramdohr, Paolo Montalban (Funny Girl, Pacific Overtures) as Prof. Kurt Huber, Sam Gravitte (Wicked) as Frederick Fischer, Cole Thompson (Into the Woods) as Willi Graff, with Ellis Gage (Next To Normal), Dani Apple (The Sorceress), Pasquale Crociata, Cal Mitchell, and Aaron Ramey.
White Rose is based on a true story, and features a book and lyrics by Brian Belding, with music by Natalie Brice. The musical follows a group of university student activists who stood up to Hitler in Nazi Germany, risking everything by creating and distributing leaflets that challenged his propaganda. Will Nunziata directs.
"The White Rose students were the privileged few who benefited from unjust laws and discrimination. Yet they were the ones who ultimately stood up for those who no longer had a voice," said Belding in a previous statement. "They chose to use their privilege for good, risking everything. My hope is that this musical inspires those struggling to find their own way to take action where they see injustice."
The production features music direction and arrangements by Sheela Ramesh, movement direction by Jordan Ryder, and orchestrations by Charlie Rosen. The creative team also includes set designer James Noone, costume designer Sophia Choi, lighting designer Alan C. Edwards, sound designer Elisabeth Weidner, wig designer Liz Printz, and production stage manager Ellie Handel. Casting is by Eisenberg/Beans Casting. White Rose is presented in association with NewYorkRep.

Festival! Northern Roots Traditional Music Festival, Brattleboro Music Center, 72 Blanche Moyse Way Brattleboro, VT ~ ~ https://bmcvt.Org/northern-roots-festival/ ~ 2024 will mark the 17th Northern Roots Festival, a perennially favorite showcase of the variety of northern musical traditions including Irish, Scottish, English, French Canadian, Shetland and more. Plans for the 2023-24 festival are well underway – and will include the usual varied schedule of Saturday afternoon workshops and a Saturday evening concert. Joining us this year are two Boston area groups – Eight Feet Tall, bringing us tunes and dancing, and Triga, bringing Scandinavian-influenced tunes on nyckelharpa, fiddle, and bouzouki. The evening concert will also feature Jake Grieco and Cedar Stanistreet's Irish flute & fiddle playing and Amanda Witman's singing. To round out the evening concert, the 2024 edition of Traddleboro will feature Laurel Swift, Lissa Schneckenburger, and Liana Moskowitz. Join us!
On Sunday NRF continues its traditional three session afternoon format, with a Pub Sing, French Canadian Session, and Irish Session, all hosted downtown at the River Garden Marketplace.
