Pokémon Go Goomy Community Day Guide

Pokémon Go is having a Goomy Community Day event on Sunday, June 9, from 2-5 p.M. In your local time.

As expected with a Community Day event, Goomy will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we've list out below.

How do I catch a shiny Goomy in Pokémon Go?

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you're short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Goomy to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren't shiny. Notably, any Goomy you've already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

What Community Day move does Goomy's evolution learn?

If you evolve Sliggoo into Goodra from 2 p.M. Until 10 p.M. In your local time, it will learn the charged move Thunder Punch.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Thunder Punch. If you don't want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

How does Goodra do in the meta?

For raiding and gyms, Goodra isn't nearly as good as its fellow pseudo-legendary dragons. You can set it up with Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor, but you should use just about anything else over it (Salamence, Dragonite, or Garchomp, just to name a few).

Goodra is actually used more in PvP, so you can set it up with Dragon Breath alongside Power Whip and Aqua Tail to give it some good move coverage.

How do I make the most of Goomy Community Day?

The following bonuses will be active during Goomy Community Day:

Tripled Stardust for catching Pokémon

Doubled candy for catching Pokémon

Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon

Incense lasts three hours

Lure Modules lasts three hours

Goomy special photobombs when taking snapshots

One additional special trade

Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely pop a Star Piece and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Goomy.

Notably, there will also be a Timed Research set that rewards you with a Rainy Lure Module — which you'll need to evolve your Sliggoo into Goodra (if it's not raining for you). That said, if you head to a more populated Pokémon Go spot (like a shopping mall or park), some players may already use Rainy Lure Modules, so you can use theirs rather than using your own.

If you can Mega Evolve Charizard X, Ampharos, Sceptile, Altaria, Salamence, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, or Garchomp, you'll score additional Goomy Candy per catch.

In addition to all this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5-10 p.M., where if you clear the Sliggoo raid, Goomy will spawn in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual 2-5 p.M. Spawn increase doesn't get you the Goomy you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.

Pokémon Go Spotlight Hour Schedule For June 2024

Every Tuesday, Pokémon Go hosts a Spotlight Hour, a special event where the spawn rates for one Pokémon are boosted greatly. There's also usually some kind of doubled up bonus, like doubled candy or XP, during this time.

During June 2024, with the way the dates line up, we have four Spotlight Hours to get through, each with their own unique bonuses.

What is Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go?

Spotlight Hour events run from 6 p.M. Until 6:59 p.M. In your local time. They can be a great way to stock up candy for a specific Pokémon you're trying to power up and evolve or even find a shiny.

Shiny rates are not boosted during Spotlight Hours, based on data gathered by Pokémon community The Silph Road. However, the sheer number of Pokémon that spawn during the hour-long weekly event will give you an improved chance of clicking on a random shiny. The more Pokémon you click on, the more opportunity you have to catch a shiny Pokémon.

How to make the most of Pokémon Go Spotlight Hours

Thanks to the hefty bonuses included every week with Spotlight Hours, some expert players strategize when to transfer or evolve their Pokémon.

For example, if you have a ton of Pidgey (or any other Pokémon in your inventory with plenty of candy to spare) to evolve for XP or a bunch of Pokémon you need to evolve to complete your Pokédex, you might want to wait until the Spotlight Hour with the double XP for evolving Pokémon, where you can use a Lucky Egg for this hour to increase your gains even more.

Or, if you're sitting on a bunch of extra legendary Pokémon you don't need anymore, consider dumping them during the double transfer candy Spotlight Hour to get even more candy gains.
